The Town is seeking Operators to join it's Wastewater Treatment team! A Plant Operator performs responsible technical work in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and related equipment. -The Town offers a competitive salary based on experience, certifications, and job performance.The Town is offering a hiring incentive of $3,000 to operators who hold a Virginia Wastewater Treatment Plant Class 1 Operator License.The starting pay rate for licensed Operators is dependent on current licensing and experience. The entry level hiring range for this position is $33,280 with training and support to obtain a Class IV Operators Certification within the first year of employment. -The Town's Wastewater Division offers a career development program. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Operate a wastewater treatment plant; take samples; read gauges and charts; maintain plant equipment.Make regular tours of plant and equipment; assist in plant operations.Monitor gauges, meters, control panels, etc.Record readings from meters and instruments.Assist in calibrating meters.Check functions of equipment.Help perform various tests.Regulate and adjust motors, pumps, blowers, valves, and other apparatus to meet changing operating conditions.Collect samples of wastewater and sludge.Monitor operation of gauges, charts, equipment, and motors.Pump sludge treatment tanks and tanker.Perform basic laboratory tests when required.Assist in writing reports.Unload and store chemical supplies in their proper places.Clean and service pumps, motors, and other equipment.Help perform routine equipment and plant monitoring maintenance.Perform minor preventive maintenance on equipment and pumps.Perform building and grounds maintenance duties.Perform related tasks as required.

Work EnvironmentWastewater Treatment Plant; The worker is subject to outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, and atmospheric conditions. -The worker may be exposed to blood borne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.Physical DemandsThis is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
