Job Description:
DescriptionSUMMARY STATEMENTThe Senior Network Administrator
provides network troubleshooting and repair to the Network
Infrastructure, Network software, Servers, Switches, Routers and
Firewall. Responsibilities may include installation, setup,
monitoring and testing of networking system software and hardware
to ensure network performance meets college and user requirements.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIESA. The Senior Network Administrator
reports directly and is responsible to the Assistant Director,
IT.B. The position requires no direct supervisory
responsibilities.C. The Senior Network Administrator coordinates
most closely with the Information Technology (IT) staff,
instructors, and students in carrying out responsibilities.DUTIESA.
Install, maintain and support Network Servers.1. Monitor daily all
Servers for storage requirements, file placement, and mapping.2.
Review Server system logs for performance issues.3. The
installation and downloading of patches for the various Operating
Systems considered to be enterprise wide including Windows, Linux,
Firmware, etc. and installation. 4. The installation and monitoring
of centralized backup processes for all servers, attached storage,
and intermediate local area network servers connected to the
network. 5. The installation and maintenance of various third party
network-based software products and assist staff in utilizing
them.6. The preparation and documentation of procedures, utilities,
and custom configurations to allow other technical support staff,
data communications staff, and the Help Desk staff to diagnose, and
correct reoccurring problems.B. Install, maintain, and support
Network infrastructure.1. Identify and verify network connectivity
problems and communications links.2. Monitor network traffic to the
various buildings and network closets.3. Anticipate communication
and networking problems and implement preventive measures.4.
Installation of switches, routers, wireless access points and other
networking equipment.5. Installation and maintenance of UPS systems
to support critical networking equipment, ensuring appropriate
power levels and optimal runtime.6. Investigate user problems,
identify their source, determine possible solutions, test and
implement solutions. 7. Ensure timely user notification of
maintenance requirements and effects on system availability.8.
Investigate, recommend and install enhancements and operating
procedures that optimize network availability.9. Support Fiber
Channel storage, and interconnect servers to SANs.10. Support
various SANs and NASs in environment.11. Plan and implement network
security, including building firewalls, applying cryptography to
network applications, managing host security, file permissions,
backup and disaster recovery plans, file system integrity, and
adding and deleting users.12. Perform other tasks as assigned by
the IT Assistant Director, and/or the IT
Director.RequirementsEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEAssociates degree in
computer science with emphasis on Networking or equivalent
experience. Ideally should have 5-10 year experience, similar in
nature to HCC environment. SKILLS AND ABILITIESWorking knowledge of
the UNIX, Linux and Windows Operating System's and familiarity with
a variety of subsidiary support systems. Working knowledge of
Active Directory, Office 365 and Azure cloud services. Working
knowledge of VMWare ESXi, and Citrix Xen Server virtualization.
Working knowledge of routing, TCP/IP, various network protocols,
wireless access points, and RF mapping. Juniper experience or
training preferred. Working knowledge of antispam email firewall.
Must have the ability and desire to solve problems and work in a
highly technical environment. Must be detailed oriented and possess
good technical writing skills. Needs to be experimental and have
the ability to make knowledge transfer to peers and associates
concerning new software. WORKING ENVIRONMENTThis is a moderate
stress position involving interaction with other IT staff. There is
some heavy lifting involved in the placement of equipment.
Occasional eyestrain will occur from heavy computer usage. Time is
spent in normal office conditions with numerous interruptions.
