Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking an experienced Sr. Technical Program Manager to manage critical core infrastructure projects, interact with service owners and partner teams to deliver complex projects and programs. As a Sr. Technical Program Manager in the Data Center Operations Strategic Engineering team (DCOSE), your responsibilities will span multiple subject areas within the data center operations space. Business-impacting projects you would be responsible for will enhance data center efficiency through automation and enhanced processes. The projects require timely execution with the highest degrees of security, performance, availability and reliability. Our ideal candidate is a highly motivated, extremely organized individual with experience in creating methodology and building value at a global scale. The role requires the ability to quickly assimilate knowledge spanning numerous technology subjects and apply this to projects, products and operations.

As a Sr. Technical Program Manager:

  • You will have end-to-end ownership of highly visible, complex, cross-functional projects, including product definition, roadmap planning, resource planning and execution of data center projects related to non-server/non-rack services and devices. Services that fall under this scope include: Snowball, Snowmobile, Glacier, Ground Station, and Mobile Device Farm.
  • You support service owners in meeting infrastructure capacity goals that ensure sufficient capacity to meet customer demand. You act as Single Threaded Owner (STO) directly engaged with the service counterparts and work with stakeholders within and outside of Infrastructure Operations to monitor service capacity goals and drive accountability and actions on the factors that hinder the successful recovery of broken hardware.
  • You are responsible for managing the lifecycle of a complex cross-functional data center program with considerable impact. Your program may focus on a single product in a critical technology area or you may work more broadly, managing larger initiatives that span organizations or geographies in support of a larger business objective.
  • You may own the delivery of large/complex You may be assigned to manage the roadmap for an organization, and even ownership of an organization goal.
  • As a large technology program owner, you are accountable for the overall strategy as well as driving teams inside and outside of your organization to deliver. You are able to define the program (mission, vision, tenets), set objectives, analyze data, drive improvements to metrics, and influence resource allocation.
  • You understand the systems in your product or program space, their limitations, scaling factors, boundary conditions, and reasons behind architectural decisions.
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, or a similar degree, or commensurate industry experience
  • 7+ years of industry experience, strong technical project management skills e.g. project definition, requirement definition, project plan creation and execution, risk management, measurement of success
  • 5+ years in Technical Program Management
  • Experience leading complex projects involving multiple global teams
  • Must be able to think and act both strategically and tactically
  • Strong oral and written communication skills are crucial, as well as ability to think clearly, analyze quantitatively, problem-solve, scope technical requirements and prioritize
  • Sound business judgment, proven ability to influence others, and strong analytical thinking skills are critical to success in this position
  • Uses data to drive data-driven proposals and decisions
  • Experience in management of complex, high value technology infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with data center concepts
  • Experience of working with teams across multiple locations
  • Well organized and able to work effectively under time pressure
  • Proficiency with SQL, Excel
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon's leadership principles requirements for this role
  • Meets/exceeds Amazon's functional/technical depth and complexity for this role
