Job DescriptionSOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help the homeless and poor of Washington, DC. With over 30 programs throughout the District of Columbia, we provide a wide spectrum of services to the most vulnerable individuals and families of our city. SOME's affordable housing for families offers safe, dignified, and affordable apartments to families experiencing homelessness and/or poverty.Covid-19 Considerations: SOME (So Others Might Eat) currently has a mandatory Covid-19 vaccination policy. All employees are required to have completed the Covid-19 vaccination + boosters prior to hiring. Submission of a Covid-19 Vaccination Card is required. SOME (So Others Might Eat) is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant to support our WV Residential Treatment Program.Position Overview: The Medical Assistant supports the nursing and clinical staff of West Virginia Residential Treatment. Promotes health and wellness in the program. The Medical Assistant will also provide clinical care to patients and will assist physicians and nurses with daily duties.Schedule: The hours are Wednesday and Friday: 9:00am - 3:00pm for a total of 12 hrs per week.Qualifications Required: HS Diploma/GED; 2 years of Healthcare experience in a Primary Care, Acute Care, or Ambulatory ClinicPreferred: HS Diploma/GED; 3-5 years of Healthcare experience in a Primary Care, Acute Care, or Ambulatory ClinicRequired License/Certification: CPR/First Aid; Medical Assistant Certification. Must be willing to undergo a criminal background and FBI check and other pre-employment screenings such as drug tests. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Knowledge of electronic health records usage and management
  • Knowledge of clinical care and medical terminology
  • Good listening skills to identify patient needs and direct accordingly
  • Customer service skills to work with patients
  • Problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to remain calm in crisis situations
  • Ability to communicate with diverse audiences
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Flexibility with the ability to multi-task despite competing priorities
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, and OutlookExpected Contributions:Clinical Care: Take and record the vital signs of patients. Perform phlebotomy functions. Administer injections and vaccines per Physician order. Discharge patients per Physician order and perform discharge education. Perform basic patient care procedures within the scope of practice. Respond to patient inquiries and assist nurses and doctors with procedures.Administrative: Assist with answering phones. Fill out medical forms, as needed. Order and maintain vaccines and medications. Order and stock medical supplies.
