Job Description Job Description Department: School Position Title: Adult Program Head Reports to: School Director & Managing Director of School Classification: Part-time, non-exempt Part-time Pay Range : $31,824–$36,504 (annualized) Stipend for Adult Concert: $2,000 for direction of the annual concert Location: 100% In Person - NW, Washington, DC Start Date: Negotiable Application Review : Preference will be given to applications submitted by February 20, 2026 Scope: The Adult Program Head at The Washington School of Ballet (TWSB) oversees artistic components of the adult programs in collaboration with the School Director. This includes appropriate syllabus, faculty management, program communications, and program presentations or concerts. In addition, the Adult Program Head conducts faculty reviews, creates new programming or adjusts existing program offerings as is fiscally responsible in collaboration with the Managing Director. The Adult Program Head reports directly to the School Director and the Managing Director. The Adult Program Head works in collaboration with Community Engagement on cross-program needs and initiatives. Responsibilities: Represent a positive image and collaborates with all The Washington Ballet (TWB) and TWSB constituents, within and outside the organization Teach within the Adult Program 6 hours per week. Additional class hours are paid at a separate hourly rate. Administer programs for 12 hours per week at $25-$30/hr . Manage and direct Adult Program performances and showings, including the annual Adult Concert. Participation as a choreographer would be paid separately at the Adult Concert rate. Works collaboratively and effectively with other School leadership Help foster a positive student and faculty experience Development of new programing with the School Director and Managing Director of the School Producing seasonal program schedules, faculty schedules, maintain faculty contact lists, and provide faculty scheduling support for the Adult program with School Administration. Manage substitute lists and manage the scheduling of substitute faculty for the program Recruit and hire faculty on behalf of the TWSB Adult Program Direct program communications and provide content for the creation of communications in collaboration with TWB marketing staff. Provide Faculty annual training and reviews in coordination with School Director Observe all Adult Program classes Be available weekends and evenings as required Provide support, such as Dance for All offerings, as necessary to Community Engagement programs in coordination with the School Director Attend meetings as required Actively participate in creating a work culture that embodies the core values of TWB; Creativity, Commitment, Communication, Collaboration, Compassion, and Community. Internal Contacts: School Director, Managing Director of School, School Managers, Pianists, Faculty, TWB and TWSB Administrative Staff External Contacts: Students, parents, patrons, donors, general public Positions Supervised: Faculty Qualifications - Education and Experience Advanced knowledge and experience with classical ballet pedagogy Advanced knowledge and experience with another genre of concert dance pedagogy Professional Competencies and Skills: Support the philosophy and mission of The Washington School of Ballet and The Washington Ballet Be a strong advocate for the Ballet in the community Willingness to "pitch in" and be available for projects and special assignments Must be detail-oriented Should possess excellent communications and strong interpersonal skills Should possess excellent organizational skills, good collaborator Basic financial understanding, and strong writing skills also required Prioritizes work to effectively balance assignments, communications, and relations Communicate conflicts, concerns or matters of urgency to appropriate supervisor or director Demonstrate exceptional skills in managing administrative responsibilities Confidentially, and with respect to private/confidential information, communicate and disseminate information or data to appropriate personnel or individuals Foster ongoing positive relationships with individuals encountered Maintain positive and professional decorum in relations with others Demonstrate sound project management skills including ability to organize and manage multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines and objectives Work in a detail-oriented manner, is resourceful and flexible, and able to handle tasks simultaneously Face demanding situations with tenacity and sensitivity Work independently and as part of team Knowledge of: High degree of proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Excel, MS Word) Database management programs/systems Physical Demands: Prolonged periods of sitting and standing Ability to lift 30lbs.
